Infestation!

Scribbit is hosting her Winter Bazzar and this week is asking for Halloween ideas, and Mamanista is hosting a Halloween Blog Carnival. Check out her sponsor at What's Cooking Weekly who is giving out a Shrek Cookbook in their drawing, so join in with your favorite Halloween. Here are the kitchen crafts we made today with the kids:

To make mummies, you will need 8 hot dogs, a package of crescent roll dough (8 rolls), and ketchup & mustard. Cut crescent rolls into strips and wrap around the mummies. Bake according to directions on the roll package, then use ketchup & mustard for eyes & mouths.

To make spiders simply decorate chocolate frosted cupcakes with pull apart twizzlers, skittles, and candy corn. Here are Jordan's black widows:

What a good mom you are! Looks like fun! No Halloween fun here. No, instead I get to say "Hurry up and finish your homework! Why aren't you checking your math work? It's bed time-hurry up!" Lame.

In the Spirit of helping...
I duplicated something I’d seen in the Flash Gordon movie, a test of bravery where the kids could put their arms down inside the unknown cavity of the Bravery Beast, a chance to either be rewarded or die a horrible death if they got stung, bit or what ever happens if the beast inside gets angry or perceives cowardice.

I used a five gallon bucket to create the belly of the beast, a plastic bucket that originally had been used at the local donut shop to hold a berry mixture. I then added a couple of short lengths of dryer vent tubing and some papier-mâché to cover the contraption to make it look like organic. I cut a couple of holes in the bucket and attached the dryer vent hoses on the inside of the bucket, the bottom of the bucket becoming the top. I then covered it to make it look like a tree stump or rock looking thing, painted it brown and black and placed it on top of two tables that had a large cloth draped over so I could hide below, having access to where the open part of the bucket rested between the tables supporting it.

Very festive and creative. I will have to try them with my grandchildren. I am sure they will love making them.

Thanks for sharing. Have a day filled with love and laughter!

Oh my good. I forgot I didn't have breakfast . . . you've just reminded me!

Drop back by my blog today. I added an Addendum with all the links to those missing in action yesterday. Plus added a plug for Tristi's performance at the next Blogging Babe dinner.

We made the hotdog mummies last year and the kids loved them. I loved that the kids were able to make them with very little help from me.

how fun! I wish my kids had a more fun and creative mommy...

I'm absolutely going to do the mummies - and I think I'll let the kids do the cupcakes too - just for kicks.

I enjoyed meeting you (sort of) yesterday at lunch. (I say sort of, cause I got to know the ladies at my end of the table much more so than the ones down on your end. Next time I'll make sure I do my best to sit by some "babbling babes" that I didn't get to know as well.)

hi Jen! I finally found you! Your children are beautiful - truly cherubs!

Yummy treats. Too bad my boys have me as their mom (I don't do stuff like that). They'd LOVE you!

Gosh Jen. You and my sister are very creative moms. I'm constantly amazed at what she comes up with it and now you. Wow.

- and the reason I dropped by today . . .

There are 23 days left and counting, ladies . . . if you have the most wonderful husband in the world, you need to nominated him!

I know there are other wonderful husbands out there. Until midnight November 30, 2007 I will be taking nominations via this email address ces@candacesalima.com. The six finalists will be posted, please send a picture with the nomination, on December 1, 2007 when voting will commence and the winner will be chosen by you. Sadly, because it would just be skewed, my husband cannot win although I think he'd be a shoe in. On December 15, 2007 the winner will be announced.

We have some great husbands already nominated, but I know there are more out there. So start nominating! Tell me about your husband and why you think he is the Best Husband in the World! That would be world . . . ladies, no geographic boundaries.
