Works for Me-No More Wasted Bananas

My daughter loves bananas, or rather, she loves the first 2 bites of a banana. Sometimes someone else is willing to finish it, but when they aren't, I've started cutting off the bitten part & freezing the rest to make smoothies with later. I also do this with any other fruit the kids haven't wasted. Say I cut up an apple, but 2 slices are left? Throw it into the freezer! Same goes for that one lonely canned peach left in the jar, or when there is less than a serving of yogurt left in a large container.

Good idea! I've frozen lots of fruit before. But I never thought of freezing leftover parts. very smart. I love being frugal and not wasting.

Smart idea. I do something similar for vegetables that are to be made into stew.

This is a great tip! You can also use these for banana bread!

Have a great second half of the week!

Great idea! I have three bananas in the fridge that are crying out to be made into muffins. :)

With five children (one of whom is a teenager) we don't usually have many leftovers (be they bananas or sandwiches or casseroles--ha).

Great tip for less waste! I also mush leftover banana into pancakes or oatmeal--sweetens without the refined sugar!

You are so smart. I like to gather the half eaten apples, wash then, boil them, then put through my food mill for apple sauce. The kids love eating it and I feel an evil joy for tricking them into finishing that "But mom, it's got brown on it" apple.

I do that too. The skins will turn black, but once thawed, the flesh part is perfect for bread or muffins.

I've quit buying yogurt in single serve containers and started buying vanilla yogurt in a big container, then adding fresh or thawed fruit. This solves several problems - less waste, less sugar, less packaging, and less money.

Frozen banana pieces are great for teething babies, too. :)

Good tip!
I do freeze bell pepper because I find I always buy more than I need. So I chop them and put them in a pint sized container, really handy for a quick stir fry or spaghetti sauce. Thanks for sharing!

Great tip.

It's better than eating it yourself.
What a great idea!!

Great tip! Thanks for sharing this - and did you know that you can keep bananas in the fridge to keep them from getting too ripe too fast? The peels still brown, but they stay delicious and "crisp" longer :)
